Black Bryony

Deborah Griffin portrays Black Bryony, a mysterious and slightly radioactive being.

Black Bryony was originally a character from one of my paintings, titled 111. She is part of an ensemble representing my imaginary childhood friends. For my first solo exhibition, I wanted to bring the beings in my paintings to life, and photography became the portal I had been seeking.

The individuals who portray my beings in the photographs are carefully chosen for their innate qualities that align with the concept. They are also willing to fully surrender themselves to the creative unfolding.

(See May 2010 entry here, 'Home Ground', for this painting.)

She filled my mouth with broken crockery while I was sleeping.

Also from '111' is Tale Won, as a young man.
